The employment cell of the East Jaintia Hills unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) today submitted a 17-point charter to the Chairman of the District Selection Committee regarding job recruitment.
The pressure group said it has become increasingly evident that there are inherent flaws and inconsistencies in the current system that hinders the selection of the most qualified candidates.
One of the biggest issues is, according to the KSU, a lack of transparency in the recruitment process. Transparency would be helped by clearly outlining the selection criteria, making the evaluation process more objective and providing timely updates to all stakeholders.
Stating that additionally, a thorough revamp of the DSC’s recruitment methods is essential to align them with modern standards and best practices, the KSU said this includes updating job descriptions to reflect the evolving requirements of different positions, streamlining the application and evaluation processes and introducing mechanisms to prevent bias and favouritism.
“By embracing these changes, the DSC can enhance its ability to attract and select the most qualified candidates, ultimately benefiting the district by ensuring that competent individuals are appointed to key roles,” the KSU added.
The charter’s points include appointing sufficiently qualified and non-official Vice-Chair and non-official members with no political affiliations; annual declaration of assets and liabilities as public servants; need for genuine domiciles of Meghalaya fluent in the local languages; avoiding ad hoc, contractual and casual appointments; annual calendar of examinations and interviews; public disclosure of marks; prevention of changes to roll numbers of candidates during recruitment process; copies of OMR sheets to be supplied to candidates; release of answer keys after exams; timely completion of recruitment process from date of advertisement; abolition of personal interview for Grade B, C, D posts; etc.
