Shillong, May 26: The Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, is attending the 16th Canadian Parliamentary Seminar being held in Ottawa, Canada, from May 25 to 29.
The theme of this year’s seminar is ‘Parliaments in the 21st Century: Innovation and Adaptation for Democracy’, bringing together parliamentary leaders and officials to deliberate on contemporary challenges and evolving democratic practices.
The seminar, organised by the Canadian Parliament, will feature discussions on a wide range of key subjects, including an overview of the Canadian parliamentary system, the role of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), engaging youth in parliamentary democracy, promoting women’s political leadership in Parliament, modern parliamentary infrastructure, mechanisms for holding governments accountable, adapting to traditional and social media, electronic voting, hybrid proceedings in the House of Commons and the future of artificial intelligence in parliaments with a focus on innovation, ethics and accountability.
