The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) Laban circle today shut down four tea stalls located under Raid Laban area for alleged failure to meet the specified quality standard set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Members of the pressure group inspected 27 eateries in the area and said most of them do not have the required food safety registration and licenses as mandated by the FSSAI.
The KSU said the Appayani Tea Stall in Laban, Babua Tea Stall, Lumshatsngi, Dada Stall, Red Cross and Ruma Das Tea Stall in Last Stop were asked to close down until they meet the standards.
According to the KSU during the inspection it was identified that these tea stall have not ensured hygiene which could lead to many health problems.
A report will also be submitted to the concerned minister in charge and the food inspector in this regard.
