The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today pushed back 32 migrant workers engaged in construction sites in Mawlai area.
The non-local workers were found working without valid documents at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Mawlai Iewrynghep by the KSU, Mawlai circle.
According to the KSU, 25 workers without proper documentation were found in NEHU and seven in Mawlai Iewrynghep during its two-day inspection.
The union said it would intensify its self-sanctioned checks if the state government does not implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Meghalaya Registration of Migrant Workers (Safety and Security) Act, 2020.
