The Khasi Students Union (KSU), North Eastern Border has raised objection to installation of electric poles by Assam in three villages along the inter-state border in Ri Bhoi district.
According to the union, the Assam government had on July 13 dropped electricity poles at Sabuda, Jatalong and Umsohlaper villages.
Their contention was that since the neighbouring state had on various occasions objected to similar initiatives taken up by Meghalaya.
KSU NEB president, Banjop Maring led his members to the office of Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhaya to put forth their objections on the matter today.
President of the Synjuk Rangbah Shnong, Eastern Border Blickstar Sohtun said, “We will not allow Assam to install electricity poles in these three villages because when Meghalaya did the same in 2013 at Umsohlaper and at Sabuda in 2017 they had uprooted those poles.”
Sohtun said they had urged the deputy commissioner to intervene and not to allow Assam to carry out their projects in these villages.
