The Khasi Students Union (KSU), East Jaiñtia Hills district has filed an FIR against officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for public nuisance caused by the delayed repair work on NH 6.
The FIR with the Superintendent of Police against the General Manager/ Project Director highlights an incident that transpired on August 8, during a protest by KSU concerning the deteriorating road conditions on NH 6 when the technical manager of NHAI, Biswajit Jyoti Lahkar assured that the entire stretch of the highway would be repaired within six weeks time/
The KSU said it is almost eight weeks and there is no sign of work, which is nothing but making false promises and negligence on the part of the NHAI. “The NHAI authorities have caused public nuisance and endangered the lives of commuters and drivers driving this road. Such actions are against the law and pose a threat to public safety,” the union said.
Supporting documents, photographs, videos of the national highway were also submitted with the SP.
