The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has re-elected Prof. Lakhon Kma as its president for 2024-2025.
The association also elected Prof. Prasenjit Biswas as vice-president, while Dr. Marbhador M. Khymdeit is re-elected as the general secretary.
Dr. Juwesh Binong continues as the joint secretary, while Dr. Arnab Maji as treasurer.
The executive committee includes Prof. Xavier P. Mao, Prof. Desmond L. Kharmawphlang, Prof. Utpal K. De, Dr. Wandenecia Tariang, Dr. Jacqueline J. Thabah and Dr. Dokatchi Ch. Marak.
The members of the fraternity has congratulated the new team on being elected unopposed. It also expressed its collective desire that the new team, true to its long tradition of ensuring welfare, is a fine balance between merit, experience and eminence-all much needed for running NEHUTA in a more dedicated and committed way.
Kma said the newly elected body will continue raising core issues of teaching fraternity in terms of pending matters of timely promotion, correction of Career advancement dates, promotion form stage 5 to 6, inappropriate appointments of Deans of School of Social Sciences and School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences, along with issues of fairness, transparency and efficiency in running NEHU.
“The NEHUTA is particularly concerned about falling standards in academics and services rendered to teachers and students and also to the larger society that requires positive intervention,” he said.
He also pledged to work with national and regional priorities in higher education and keep raising questions on formulation and implementation of policies that impact NEHU and higher educational scenario and play a positive role to make it better for everyone.
Kma informed that an executive committee meeting will be held soon to chart out an agenda for pursuing the goal of betterment of NEHU and higher education.
