The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Home Ministry to take appropriate action in connection with the killing of Sylvanus Dhar by Bangladeshi intruders.
It may be mentioned that Dhar was murdered by Bangladeshi intruders on January 6 at Balisar-Lumsokie village near Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills. The victim was killed by sharp weapons as he tried to guard his betel nut plantation.
Following the incident, social activist Kynjaimon Amse moved the NHRC and sought its intervention on the matter.
After examining the complaint, the NHRC on February 1 disposed of the case while also ordering the Home Ministry to take appropriate action on the matter within a period of eight weeks.
The NHRC has also directed the Home Ministry to intimate Amse about the action taken on the matter.
