The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) does not want to see the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) return to lead the central government and will not support any candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election associated with the saffron party.
KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said that the party wants to preserve the secular fabric of the country and that supporting the BJP would go against this.
Meanwhile, the minor party is focused on the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections, which are also meant to be held this year.
KHNAM is scrutinising potential candidates, mindful that there is no anti-defection law applicable to the KHADC and, therefore, those given the party ticket should be loyalists.
