The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) today said that a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) exam centre would soon be set up in Jowai.
Members of the JSU who met with Education Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri stated that they were assured that an examination centre would be identified in Jowai.
The union said with no exam centres in the district, many students from Jaintia Hills are compelled to travel to Shillong or other far-off centres that pose challenges in terms of distance. They said poor students cannot afford to travel as it involves expenses.
They pointed out that traffic congestion in Shillong city is another problem for the students, especially during peak hours. Many students have experienced delays and anxiety due to traffic jams on the way to exam centres, the union said.
