The Government of Meghalaya has announced a ban on re-registration of vehicles older than 15 years from other States and Union Territories.
The new directive states that no vehicle exceeding 15 years from its original date of registration outside Meghalaya will be eligible for re-registration in the state.
Commissioner & Secretary Sanjay Goyal in a notification said the order exempts vehicles officially classified as “Vintage” under Rule 48(3) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 (as amended) and vehicles owned by the Central or State Governments for official use.
The order is part of the state’s broader initiative to reduce emissions and modernise its vehicle fleet.
