Headmen of Jowai town today protested against the decision of the State government to shift the PWD Jowai North Division to Shangpung.
A silent protest march was organised by the Synjuk ki Waheh Chnong Jowai from Jrisalein Chutwakhu to the premises of the PWD Jowai North Division in Ladthadlaboh.
The PWD has been shifted to Shangpung and has been renamed as PWD Shangpung Division.
Following the protest march, President of the Synjuk Alan Niangti announced that the headmen will hold a ‘stay at home’ protest on November 16 where all residents of Jowai will take part.
Niangti said that instead of shifting the PWD office the government should have looked into completion of the pending project that include Jowai Market complex at Ïawmusiang, B. Ed colleges and the Umngot water supply project.
According to the State government, the PWD Jowai North Division so far has no connection whatsoever with roads in Jowai as it covers only areas under Raliang and Mowkaiaw constituencies.
The site where PWD Jowai North Division is now located will be converted into a mini secretariat for West Jaiñtia Hills district where the Deputy Commissioner’s office and other government offices will be housed.
