The Rs.1541.13 lakh ‘Jowai Renovation Water Supply Scheme’ project of the PHE Electrical Division that has been hanging fire for the past 19 years finally see the light of day.
The project was inaugurated today by PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar at a function held at the Treatment Plant Complex PHE in Urkhla Khimusniang, Jowai.
The scheme is funded by the DoNER ministry under NLCPR in 2003 to provide water supply drawn from Umngot river to Jowai at 7.59 MLD to cover a population of 62,000.
Chief Engineer PHE, CR Challam said that to ensure smooth water supply for Jowai additional amount of Rs. 4.48 crore has been sanctioned for renovation and replacement of the existing water pump set. He informed that a micro processor at Rs 3.72 crore will be installed to prevent breakdown of power supply.
Meanwhile, the minister also laid the foundation stone for Khliehtyrshi Combined Water Supply Scheme and Mihmyntdu Water Supply Scheme funded under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Rs. 24,35,10,000 crore and Rs. 32,33,78,000 crore.
