The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) inspected two abandoned projects in the East Jaintia Hills today – a residential school in Byndihati and teacher training centre in Umtyra.
The residential school had been sanctioned in October 2015 and the building was constructed within 24 months. On the other hand, the training centre was sanctioned in 2016 and the building was constructed.
While conducting the survey, the JNC discovered broken doors and windows and shattered glass inside the buildings. “It seems that the government has built this place for scoundrels and it’s extremely unsafe”, it said in a press release.
The pressure group has already brought the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to the projects through a memorandum on September 6. At the time, Dhar had reportedly promised that he would take up the matter.
The JNC had also filmed its visits to show the government incontrovertible proof about the “crumbling infrastructure that mocks our very notion of progress.”
