Shillong, Apr 14: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) has raised its concerns over a persistent power supply crisis affecting seven villages under the 7 Shnong Circle in Khliehriat division, formally submitting a complaint to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL).
The villages – Moolamanoh, Moolang, Musniang, Musniangrim, Rangad, Lumputhoi and Moonongtdu – have been facing frequent and prolonged power outages, often stretching from several hours to an entire day, the JNC said. Despite the inconsistent supply, residents continue to receive electricity bills that do not reflect actual usage.
Describing the situation as a serious lapse in service delivery, the JNC stated that consumers are being charged fully despite irregular power supply, raising concerns over fairness and transparency.
The council also indicated that common causes such as infrastructure faults or weather-related disruptions do not appear to explain the recurring outages, pointing instead toward possible administrative lapses within the distribution system.
During the discussion, the SDO assured representatives of the council that the matter would be taken up with utmost seriousness and addressed immediately.
