Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun has requested the state government to quickly release funds for victims of the severe weather event that struck areas under his constituency and in the rest of the state on Sunday.
The furious storm ripped roofs off houses and caused other damage to crops and plantations.
Villages such as Pamumsylliang, Umshalini, Rani, Gonpati, Jalpaham, Matang, Jirang and Umsohpai have bore the brunt of the calamity, Sohtun told reporters today.
The MLA contacted the Jirang Block Development Officer and Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner in order to expedite relief to affected families.
Sohtun has also communicated the gravity of the situation to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Meanwhile, in a message to the affected households, he encouraged patience and solidarity, assuring them that the government is mobilising resources to alleviate their suffering.
