A total of 11 candidates filed their nomination papers for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills on Thursday.
Of these, 10 candidates are from the Voice of the People Party (VPP) and one from the Congress.
The lone Congress candidate who filed his papers on Thursday is Grimlang Dkhar, who will contest from Narpuh constituency.
The 10 VPP candidates are Damewanhi Rymbai, who is also the organising secretary of the party’s East Jaintia Hills district, who will contest from Musniang-Rangad constituency, Lamsuk Langstang will contest from Sutnga–Narwan constituency, Deiwi Tongper from Narpuh constituency, Lastborn Sympli from Sutnga-Nongkhlieh constituency, Dakheinkor Tangliang from Sumer constituency, Levenson Suchiang from Bataw-Lakadong constituency, Delmon Phawa from Tuber constituency, Soki Lapasam from Muthlong- Sohkymphor constituency, Tyngshain Phawa from Khliehriat-Rymbai constituency and Prince Sukhlain from Saipung- Nongkhlieh constituency.
The VPP has named their candidates from all the 29 constituencies.
Meanwhile, three National People’s Party (NPP) candidates from the War Jaintia region today filed their nomination papers for the upcoming JHADC election.
The three NPP candidates are Het Pohthmi for War West and Holando Lamin for War Central, both sitting MDCs, while Wonly L Chyrmang filed his papers for War East.
After the filing of nomination papers, these candidates expressed their gratitude to the NPP for giving them a chance to contest the district council polls, with the hope that they will win the MDC election.
They also said that if they win, they will work hard for the development of the autonomous district council and to implement the developmental schemes within the constituency and also look into other priorities of the public.
Apart from them one independent candidate – Treiborlang R Suchen filed his nomination from War West constituency.
Suchen is being supported by the War West People’s Progressive Forum.
He said that he has decided to serve the people of War West constituency as an MDC by bringing about development, unity of villages, to improve the customs and traditions and to find ways and means to improve the market in Amlarem and Dawki and to protect the right of ownership as indigenous people.
