East Jaiñtia Hills police today arrested an interstate drug trafficker and seized 252 grams of heroin worth Rs 2 crore from his possession.
The accused identified as Thangsiamrnawia Paite of Aizawl, Mizoram was intercepted at Umtyra while transporting the contraband in a commercial Sumo bearing registration number MZ01 P 2566 from Mizoram and heading towards Shillong.
East Jaiñtia Hills Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said during search one small brown carton box was detected which belonged to Paite. Inside the small carton box, 20 soap boxes were found containing yellowish orange powder weighing 252 grams which tested positive for heroin, he added.
He said a case has been registered at Khliehriat PS and investigation of the same is under way to trace the forward and backward linkages.
