The president of the Meghalaya unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, has expressed his confidence that his party will win the general elections to the Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils (KHADC and JHADC), voting for which was held today.
After casting his vote, Tynsong said, “As the party leader, we have traveled around the Khasi and Jaintia Hills and we have seen that there is hope in every constituency except for a few where there is a fight. Therefore, we are confident that we will win the elections in these ADCs”.
The Deputy Chief Minister also added that the NPP is determined to serve the people and the state through the three ADCs (the Garo Hills ADC being the other) if the people give their decision in the party’s favour. The NPP was the biggest party in the outgoing KHADC and JHADC and is the largest in the Garo Hills ADC and state Assembly.
Tynsong also said that the party has visited villages in Khasi-Jaintia Hills to inform about various development projects and the importance of having a NPP MDC to assist the government in bringing about development in all aspects to each constituency and to strengthen the autonomous district councils to protect the indigenous people.
