Shillong, May 18: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) today alleged that there has been a failure to apply the state reservation policy in the appointment of staff at Women’s College, Shillong.
In a letter to the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, the pressure group said that the posts are fully funded by the state government and must therefore follow the state quotas.
Quoting replies received to a Right to Information (RTI) inquiry, the HYC said that out of 22 sanctioned teaching and non-teaching posts, only three appointees from the Khasi-Jaintia community were given jobs.
It added that it is “deeply concerning” that an aided educational institution functioning on government-sanctioned posts has allegedly ignored applicable reservation norms over the years. It sought verification of whether the reservation policy and roster system were properly followed and asked for submission of complete appointment records, roster registers and category-wise details of sanctioned posts before the competent authority.
