The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has sought reservation for students seeking admission in government educational institutions, including higher and professional studies.
The organisation met with Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh today and stressed that extension of reservation for admissions under the State Reservation Policy is illegal.
HITO President Donbok Dkhar said that the policy is meant purely for job and is highly illegal if it is implemented in admissions to educational institutions, which can be challenged in the court of law.
As per the RTI obtained by the organisation from the Education Joint Secretary, no notifications is available on inclusion admissions but said, “reservation for education including higher and professional courses are being implement base on the principle and spirit of the State Job Reservation Policy.”
Dkhar urged the minister to put in place a reservation policy specifically meant for admissions before the commencement of the next academic session so that students are not misled.
He said the minister assured that the matter will be taken up with the Chief Minister.
