North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) held a rally and staged a dharna against Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla today over his failure to accede to the association’s demand for an emergency Academic Council meeting.
NEHUTA wanted the emergency meeting because it claimed that the VC had gone over the top of the Academic Council when he decided that state colleges would implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from this academic year.
Yesterday, NEHUTA released a dossier of Shimla’s alleged failings, principally regarding but not limited to the NEP.
However, for now at least, NEHUTA has stopped short of calling for the VC’s resignation but wants him to acknowledge the teaching staff’s demands and discuss them.
