The Anti Narcotic Task Force in East Khasi Hills today arrested a man and seized heroin worth Rs 2 crore.
Police did not divulge his name but said that the accused was travelling in a bus from Silchar and was intercepted at Mawryngkneng.
During a search 17 boxes of heroin weighing 235.77 grams was seized from his possession, including a mobile phone and a black bag, police said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma lauded the police and said, “Amid our efforts to showcase Meghalaya’s tourism-friendly image through events like #CherryBlossomFestival, these traffickers intend to sully our state’s reputation.”
“Our government stands committed against drug trafficking and to fortify the resilience of state and this success exemplifies our unwavering resolve. Together, we forge a prosperous and #DrugsFreeMeghalaya,” he wrote on X.
