The Meghalaya health department has line listed about 70 per cent household in the State to ensure that no eligible citizen is left without the Covid-19 vaccine.
Following a virtual review meeting with Union Health minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today, NHM director Ram Kumar said that the department is focussed to see that every last person who have not been vaccinated gets the Covid jab.
He said except for South West Garo Hills and East Jaiñtia Hills districts, which are close to 80 per cent coverage, vaccination in some district in the state is low.
In the last two weeks the health department has improved session from 1,400 sessions per week to almost 2,000 sessions allowing the department to reach 4,000 sessions in two weeks time. In the campaign of reaching every single households, 90,000 households have been touched out of the 7 lakh households, mentioned the NHM director informed.
“In Urban areas they are doing well whereas rural areas we still falling behind in terms of achieving vaccination. During monsoon there was difficulty in reaching out to people,” he said, adding, “It requires help from different departments and coordination is very important for us to achieve that.”
The health department also aims to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries get their first dose before Christmas, he said.
