A mega camp cum health camp was held at Majai, under Sohra Civil Sub-Division yesterday organised by the East Khasi Hills District Leal Services as part of the Pan India awareness campaign and outreach programme.
District & Session Judge, Noor Ain Khan said that the health camp was organized to help people have access to health care services. He also urged the people of the Majai area to come forward and take advantage of the various facilities available in the camp.
Besides, medical camp, the offices of the District Medical and Health Officer and District Social Welfare, East Khasi Hills District set up stalls highlighting their activities to create awareness and to enable the people of the area to avail their services.
Meanwhile, the South West Khasi Hills District Legal Services Authority set up a Legal Aid Help Desk Camp on November 9 at Ranikor with a view to create awareness to the general public about the importance of their rights.
N. Hashah, Panel Lawyer briefed the public thereby making them aware of their rights. She dwelt at length on the legal Services Act 1987 under which Legal Services Institution were set up with a view to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities.
During the programme the staff of the District & Session Court, Mawkyrwat helped in the distribution of pamphlets to passersby, shopkeepers, drivers etc in and around the market area.
People were also informed about the services provided by the District Legal Services Authority, role of Para Legal Volunteers, Legal Care and Support Centre so as to ensure that these services reach the marginalized sections of the society.
About 66 people visited the Help Desk with queries on free legal services and on the role and function of the District Legal Services Authority, Mawkyrwat.
