Shillong, Jul 31: The Meghalaya High Court has asked organisers of the Mawjymbuiñ pilgrimage to coordinate with the district authorities for security arrangements.
Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew in his order passed on Thursday said that the organisers of the Yatra to the cave at Mawsynram can work out the security measures with the district administration officials in order that the pilgrimage pass off without any incident and for maintenance of law and order.
The court also said that Yatra is free to write to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on this matter.
During the hearing, the lawyer appearing for Yatra informed the court that during the course of preparation for the pilgrimage, there have been some objections made from certain quarters from Lynïong village.
The High Court stated that as informed to it, the Yatra is fixed for August 2, and therefore it is not inclined to issue any further orders which may dilute the earlier orders passed by it.
In its earlier order, the High Court granted permission for a pilgrimage to the Mawjymbuiñ but set conditions. Pilgrims are not allowed to perform any puja or religious rituals at the cave, nor bring items intended for such practices. Only a symbolic sprinkling of water on the sacred stone inside the cave will be permitted, with the court explicitly prohibiting any excessive pouring of water.
