Police in South West Garo Hills arrested a person involved in selling prohibited drugs in his grocery shop.
A raid was conducted at Mir Jumla, Monbari area last night based on credible source information.
South West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vikash Kumar said the owner of the grocery shop identified as Chakeawat Hussain of Chamaibil in South Salmara, Assam was arrested.
Police seized psychotropic drugs such as SPSHEN – 689 capsules (Tramadol Hydrochloride salt content – 34.45 grams) and Nitracel – 113 tablets (Nitrazepam salt content – 1.13 grams), smartphone and Rs 5000 from his posession.
“It was found that the accused person was using his grocery shop for storage, sell and distribution of psychotropic substances across the Garo hills areas,” Kumar said.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered in Ampati police station.
Meanwhile, the shop has been sealed and police have urged public to provide information and inform the local police station immediately about miscreants involved in the illegal act. “Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given,” the SP said in a press release.
