Shillong, Oct 17: The second edition of the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CMYEP) concluded at Lariti Auditorium.
About 14,000 youth took part across 56 blocks in CMYEP 2026. At the district level, 2,400 youth were engaged, with 1,125 progressing to the state level. 480 youth received national exposure and 48 received international exposure, officials said.
The programme featured 13 events — 8 competitive and 5 non-competitive.
Prizes were distributed to winners and performances by winning participants marked the finale.
Addressing participants, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said Meghalaya is a young state and that is its strength. “A young population becomes a demographic dividend only through investment,” he said, adding that the government is investing in youth and human capital.
He said the government is creating opportunities across sectors — sports, creative economy, music, entrepreneurship, arts and culture — to build a future-ready and productive society.
Recalling that the programme started in 2013 as the Youth Exchange Programme, the Chief Minister said it was relaunched in 2025 as CMYEP to transform a selective exchange into a mass youth programme. “Previously limited to district headquarters, it now reaches all 56 blocks, giving youth from remote villages the same pathway as those from district headquarters,” he said.
The Chief Minister urged youth to believe in themselves, work together and keep their minds open to endless possibilities. He also called upon them to engage with farmers, SHGs, anganwadis, hospitals and elders and contribute to society.
