Shillong, Oct 27: The Education Department is still in the process of preparing an action plan to carry out the recommendations put forward by the Meghalaya State Education Commission (MSEC), Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed today.
Rymbui stated that the department is still reviewing the suggestions made by the commission and several aspects require further examination before a final plan is drawn up.
MSEC submitted its report in August, following extensive consultations with educators, professionals and teacher associations. The report addressed key areas, including school consolidation, higher education reform, teacher training, student performance and structural transformation across the education sector.
Two weeks ago, the state cabinet discussed the MSEC report, accepted it and asked the Education Department to review each recommendation, identify actionable items and propose a way forward. The cabinet will then decide on the implementation of the report’s suggestions.
“The work is still underway, and it will take some more time before a concrete plan is ready,” Rymbui said.
He explained that the government intends to first implement recommendations that can be easily executed, while proposals that demand wider discussions and consultations with stakeholders will be taken up later.
Rymbui further pointed out that since the education system involves various institutions, departments and organisations, it is important to include all relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process. However, the minister refrained from giving a specific timeline for completing the action plan, noting that the pace will depend on the complexity of the recommendations and the extent of consultations required.
