The State government has lifted the ban on the sale of fish and prawns imported from outside the State.
The official notification regarding withdrawal of the ban was issued by Commissioner for Food Safety Rosetta Mary Kurbah.
The State government on June 8 had issued an order banning sale of fish brought in from outside the State for a period of 15 days after sample test of river water fishes shipments showed presence of formalin.
According to analysis reports the fish samples were highly toxic and injurious to health.
At present, only local fish and those brought from Assam is sold in markets.
Local fish is relatively expensive. The cost of certain varieties of local fish is around Rs 460 per kilo.
Moreover, meats such as beef and pork have also been banned due to the prevailing lumpy skin disease and African swine fever.
