Shillong, Aug 24: Meghalaya Police were twice behind but came through as 4-2 winners against Sawmer in a thrilling match of the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Diego Khyriem (2’) and Banteilang Lyngdoh (11’) scored for Sawmer while Pynshaidor Nongrang (5’), Rapborlang Marwein (15’), Bikram Chettri (67’) and Pynshailang L Lyngkhoi (84’) did so for MLP.
Both teams came into today’s contest on the back of 2-1 victories – Sawmer against Rangdajied United on 4 August and MLP over Langsning on 18 August.
There were no changes to the police team from their win the last time around. Sawmer, on the other hand, made three swaps. In came Diego A Khyriem, Enestar Malngiang and Michaelson Kurbah in place of Oresterwell Langshiang, Andy Z Mawthoh and Wanshanlang Dkhar.
The game began with a manic 15 minutes in which four goals were scored. Diego missed Sawmer’s first two games but made an immediate impact today, getting one of the fastest goals of the season.
There was no time to relax, however, as Pynshaidor bagged the equaliser. Then, just after missing a one-on-one chance when he was up against MLP goalkeeper Eveningstar Bareh, Banteilang made no mistake with his second effort a minute later to restore Sawmer’s advantage.
The cops were back on level terms in the 15th minute, however, as Rapborlang took a cracking long-range shot that went in off the post.
Things began to settle down after that, though Banteilang thought he had another goal in the 36th minute but the assistant referee ruled it out for offside.
Into the second half, Pynshaidor had a shot come off the crossbar and bounce down, with Sawmer goalie Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar gathering it up after that. Pyrshang then made a good block to deny Rapborlang from a corner kick. However, he could not do anything to stop a second corner, which the tall Bikram headed in.
Pyrshang got his fingertips to another shot in the 73rd minute but a total breakdown in the Sawmer defence led to MLP’s fourth goal. It all began with a poor back pass that could not be cleared away and Pynshailang tapped in the ball to seal the win.
Tomorrow Laitkor will face Nangkiew Irat at 3:40pm. Laitkor have 3 points from two games while Nangkiew Irat have so far only managed 1 point and are still searching for their first win of the season.
