Meghalaya has made great strides during the nine years of governance by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre, Governor Phagu Chauhan said today.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) organised a ‘Vartalap (Conversation) on Nine Years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan (Service, Good Governance and Poor Welfare)’ here today.
The brainstorming session focused solely on the supposed benefits that the BJP government has brought to the country in various fields.
Addressing the gathering, Chauhan said that “Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan define the journey of the nine years’ of the Narendra Modi government.”
Commenting about the North East with its unique cultures and dynamic people, the Governor said that the region is witnessing an unprecedented pace of progress from infrastructural developments to enhanced connectivity.
Pointing out that the government is unlocking the immense potential of this region, Chauhan said that Meghalaya has also made significant progress during these years and he lauded the state government for taking forward the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed nation in all spheres.
“These nine years have been dedicated to bring about development which is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable,” Chauhan said. “The government has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens. The government has always believed in setting challenging targets, and achieving them before the set deadline.”
Not to be outdone, Commissioner and Secretary of Planning in the state government, Joram Beda, expanded on the progress that Meghalaya has reportedly seen. According to Beda, Meghalaya has been in the front row of integrating development and allied agendas of the Indian government at the central level and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals at the global level.
“Over the last five years, Meghalaya has been among the leading performers in implementation of various centrally-sponsored schemes. Programmes like MGNREGS, PMGSY and Jal Jeevan Mission are being implemented at an accelerated rate. Several mission mode interventions in the sectors of horticulture, livestock and fisheries have improved the income of over 1 lakh farmers and put us on track to doubling farmers’ incomes,” the civil servant said.
He added that the State has made noticeable progress in health indices over the last few years as immunisation rates have increased from 57 to 91 percent and institutional deliveries have increased from 46 to 64 percent.
Sharing details about Meghalaya’s achievements from the last few years, he informed that the state was awarded the Best Performer title in the States’ Startup Ranking 2021 by the central government and was recognised as a top performer in the Jal Jeevan Mission, with households with tap connections rising from 4,550 in 2019 to 3 lakh today.
