The meeting of the general council of the Meghalaya State Government Employees’ Federation (MSGEF) will be held on November 30 at the Soso Tham Auditorium here.
The meeting assumes significance since employees from different departments have expressed their desire for a return to the old pension scheme instead of the present National Pension Scheme (NPS).
However, it is unclear if the issue would figure at the proposed general council meeting of the MSGEF.
The old pension scheme was stopped by the Central government in 2003 and was replaced by the NPS.
Most employees felt that the NPS is completely against the welfare of employees as it totally depends on the share market and many employees who have retired under the NPS are withdrawing nominal pension after retirement which is insufficient for a decent living.
Meanwhile, the State government has accorded approval for the MSGEF general council.
The government has also permitted all its employees to leave office at 2 pm to attend the meeting.
