The Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has said that taking up the issue for the rights of the Garo community cannot be termed as greedy.
The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) had criticised the Garo organisation at a press conference yesterday stating it “greedy” for demanding 1972 as the cut-off year for the implementation of the roster system.
“Fighting for the deserved rights of Achiks cannot be termed greedy. The person who made the statement of terming the Achik Nation and ACHIK greedy probably has not read the dictionary and the meaning of equity and justice,” ACHIK public relations secretary Hamrash N Marak said in a statement today.
He said that the verdict of the High Court on the roster system was given because it found discrepancies in the implementation of State job reservation policy.
“The ACHIK demands for what is right and the rights of our community and nothing more. It is the duty of the government to repay for the injustice done for more than 50 years,” he said.
Marak said that no community can be suppressed, marginalised and deprived of their rights. He said the movement has started and getting larger every day till the realisation of second capital in Tura and maintenance of equity and justice in the roster.
