Editor,
As usual old habits fail to die-hard, with the “noble” members of district council (KHADC), which for quite some time became lull, making everyone bored to death. But hey it has once again shot up to life with a sharper dagger to dethrone the ‘King’ sitting on that hot seat.
The political storm to put Pyniaid Syiem on the hot seat is nobody’s guess considering his proximity to the Deputy Chief Minister and MLA of Pynursla who is said to have played an important role since the by-election of Mawryngkneng constituency.
Now, with the Congress benevolently siding with the NPP which is at the helm of affairs, it points out to the political understanding of removing the UDP CEM and the party from getting a foothold in the upcoming 2024 District Council elections, fearing that with 11 in the current dispensation, the council elections could put the Congress on the back foot.
Another factor is the role of the Congress that ironically in the opposition is subtle to criticise the NPP paving way for this about-turn. So you see politics in Meghalaya could make strange bedfellows and mistresses as well.
