Free Covid-19 vaccination booster shots were launched today to celebrate 75 years of independence.
The jabs, known in India as the ‘precaution dose’ will be available free of cost at government vaccination centres for 75 days.
Until now, the booster for ordinary citizens was available only for a fee at certain private health institutions. Healthcare and frontline workers could get the jab at government centres.
Today’s launch of the free shots in East Khasi Hills was organised by the office of the District Medical and Health Officer at the Rynjah State Dispensary here.
Local MLA Charles Pyngrope attended the programme.
The free booster is for double vaccinated persons 18 years and above. They should have taken the second jab 6 months or 26 weeks prior to going for the third shot.
