To ensure that chickens are humanely and hygienically treated from farm to plate, a one day training programme for poultry retailers will be held on July 19 at Lawmali Community Hall from 11am to 4pm.
The president of the All Meghalaya Poultry Suppliers and Retailers Association, Wanshailang Kharshandi, today informed that the training will be provided by the state’s food commissionerate, Veterinary Department and other departments.
As per a High Court order, retailers should maintain cleanliness, with each vendor required to separate live birds from dressed chicken.
He urged all the units from the different districts of the state to send four people each to the programme, so that they can learn all about cleanliness and safety measures.
Kharshandi also added that most poultry vendors in East Khasi Hills are already following the court’s directions.
