The foundation stone for a hospitality complex and new office building for Thadlaskein block was laid today, with the project expected to cost Rs 35 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively.
Tourism Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, along with Community and Rural Development Minister Hamletson Dohling and local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla laid the foundation stone for the construction of the complex and office building.
Director of Tourism Cyril VD Diengdoh, Director of C&RD SC Sadhu, Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills BS Sohliya were also present.
Dhar said that the creation of the hospitality complex will serve the purpose for many unemployed youths as well as will boost tourism in the district and will also serve the needs of those passing through the region.
He highlighted that the hospitality complex will directly or indirectly employ a minimum of 200 to 250 employees. The facility will include lodging, food service, tourism, venue for meetings, banquets halls, etc and will also have a children’s park.
Dohling, meanwhile, said the laying of the foundation for the construction of the new office building has been made possible because of the commitment of Shylla. He stated that the block offices are like a ladder that bridges the gap between the government and people from the outskirts.
“It pleases me to learn from the people that the services provided by the Block Development Officer and staff are exemplary,” he added.
The state government has released Rs 120 crore for the up-gradation of 46 blocks at around Rs 3 crore each.
