The Constitutional Rights Forum of South Garo Hills has written to the Chief Secretary, Rebecca V Suchiang, over the alleged manipulation and nepotism that poisoned the filling of government vacancies in the district.
Earlier this month, it was alleged by social activist Greneth Sangma that Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam Sangma had used his influence to get certain people appointed by the District Selection Committee. Rakkam has categorically denied this.
In a letter today, the CRF said that that during the course of the written examinations and, particularly while conducting the personal interview, for different posts, the DSC committed “manipulation, nepotism and favouritism” towards candidates who are well-connected with politicians, elected representatives and those who are close and on good terms with the members of the committee.
The CRF also said that this is not the first time such incidents have occurred in South Garo Hills, pointing to an instance in 2019 where, it alleged, only candidates that were recommended by Rakkam were selected.
Suchiang was urged to take up the matter and order an inquiry into the matter.
