The FKJGP Garo Hills Zone has complained that Jawairiya Islam who had been “illegally” appointed as a Project Officer of Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) for West Garo Hills District has not yet been removed despite earlier complaint lodged by the organisation.
In a letter to the Director, Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency through the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills today, the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone said that it had earlier submitted a written complaint to the Director, MNREDA through the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills on April 4.
“As, highlighted in the previous complaint, her appointment is totally illegitimate in nature as advertisement was not published in any of the local print and electronic media or in the office notice board, nor any written and personal interview was conducted for the same as mandated by the State government for any of the appointment under State departments and its undertakings, corporations and agencies,” the FKJGP said.
It also alleged that Islam did not fulfil the eligibility criteria for the post, as it requires a person who has a sound technical knowledge in the field of electrical which is Bachelor in Engineering (Electrical).
“As per our information received from different sources she had just recently completed her BA in Sociology from Guwahati University and hence is not eligible to be appointed to the post. In addition to it, the Project Officer must be fluent with the local language as he/she would require travelling to different parts of West Garo Hills for project inspections, data collections undertaken by the agency and different Central as well as State sponsored programmes and would require him/her to interact with the locals,” the FKJGP added.
Stating that it would not remain mute spectator to such inappropriate and illegitimate appointment of Islam, the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone also said that it would vehemently oppose this illegal appointment tooth and nail until the appointment is revoked or nullified.
The organisation also asked the Director, MNREDA to terminate Islam from the post immediately and issue fresh advertisement for the post “in the greater interest of justice, transparency and unbiased conduct.”
