The Seiñ ki Phra Shnong Aquatic Life and Environment Protection Council, Elaka Lakadong informed today that hundreds of fish were poisoned in Prang River, East Jaintia Hills district.
Hundreds of dead fish were found floating in the river as some person used toxic substance and even explosives to kill the fish, the organisation said in a press release today.
President of the organisation, Ephesus Talang said they have been working hard to protect the aquatic flora and fauna and such acts poses a serious health hazard to human life.
The organisation has urged the fisheries department of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council to check the harmful practices and warn of strong action against perpetrators.
