The First Lady of Meghalaya, Neelam Misra, today visited the Youth Cultural Centre at Nongkrem to witness traditional tassel crafting training being conducted by the Nongkrem Youth Development Association.
There are 30 trainees presently undergoing training at Nongkrem for a five-month course organised under the ‘Skills Meghalaya’ programme and funded by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS).
Besides ensuring that the tradition of tassel making is kept alive, the aim of the training is to impart skill-based learning to the trainees so that they are able to stand on their own feet and become economically independent.
Interacting with the trainees, the wife of Governor Brig BD Mishra (retd) lauded them for their dedication and said that the skills learned through this training will help them secure their future financially. Reiterating the importance of education, she also urged the trainees to pursue higher education in addition to acquiring other skills.
“Let our youth not only be job seekers but also become job creators,” she said.
