The first ever all-faith crematorium built by the Pynshongkhla VEC under Mawryngkneng Block was inaugurated on Friday.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo who attended the inauguration as the chief guest lauded the efforts put in by the VEC. She said the Pyngshongkhla VEC is an example to unity and through its farsightedness it will be able to shape the society and the future generation.
Mawryngkneng BDO, Ronnie Wahlang too lauded the VEC and said it is an example of unity in diversity through its dedication.
The crematorium was constructed at a cost of Rs 6, 50,000 by 72 job card holders. The idea of an all-faith crematorium was conceived by the VEC after deliberations within the village community on scarcity of land for burial grounds.
In the same programme, two water harvesting structures were inaugurated. The WHS built through MGNREGA seeks to augment the water source in the village and ensure sustainable and judicious supply of water to village residents.
Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Dr Balajiedsing Syiem, leaders of the village and residents of the area attended the function.
