A financial literacy camp for persons with disabilities was conducted today in Betasing, South West Garo Hills, aimed at equipping participants with essential financial knowledge and skills.
The camp was chaired by Raymond DZ Shira, Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, alongwith senior officials from government, MSRLS, Lead District Officer from RBI and Lead Bank District Manager, along with bank officials.
In his opening address, Shira apprised the participants that the main objective of the camp was to empower the disabled with the financial knowledge necessary to make informed decisions. Financial literacy, according to him, is important in empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring their integration into mainstream economic activities.
Lalit Vijay Singh Jamwal, Manager of RBI, led the session with a detailed presentation that covered key financial topics like importance of savings, budgeting, financial planning, role of self-help groups (SHGs) and the RBI’s grievance redressal mechanism. By understanding the importance of savings, investments, credit and debt management, participants were encouraged to take control of their financial futures. The participants were also apprised of the RBI guidelines regarding the disabled.
