Two women were arrested today while travelling through the state with a consignment of heroin estimated to be worth Rs 1.6 crore.
The duo were identified as Hoihoi Hanhal (35) and Lhing Hohoi (40), both residents of Langol in Manipur’s Imphal West district.
Police had received credible information that two women travelling in a commercial Sumo would be approaching Khliehriat from Silchar with a consignment of contraband.
Accordingly, anti-narcotics police and officers from Khliehriat police station conducted vehicle checks at Nongsning village and detained a Mizoram-registered Sumo (MZ 4A 2997).
The two female suspects were detained and their bodies searched by a woman police officer and they were found to be carrying drugs strapped to their bodies.
Each woman was carrying 10 boxes of heroin, which was seized by police.
A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at Khliehriat police station and efforts are on to trace backward and forward linkages, police said.
