Shillong, Oct 1: Nongstoiñ MLA Gabriel Wahlang has filed a police complaint against a youth who alleged money was demanded for contractual staff nurse recruitment at MCH Hospital, terming it a political stunt of the VPP.
The allegation that posts were being sold for Rs 4 lakh went viral on social media after the VPP State Youth Wing flagged it
“I have been defamed. It was alleged that two of my associates were involved. I came to find out the truth,” Wahlang told reporters, asking the person to come forward.
Claiming that the examination was “fair and transparent”, he said, “Ask all those staff nurses who will get appointed, if even one says they paid money.”
“Whatever has happened in recent days is just a political stunt of the VPP. Creating disturbance during interviews affects candidates,” he said.
Its Nongstoiñ MDC Juristman Iawphniaw who barged into the DC office premises during interviews for 60 shortlisted candidates on Tuesday and again on Wednesday with supporters, claiming he had “evidence” of bribes. He alleged jobs in Nongstoin are sold for Rs 4-5 lakh.
VPP youth wing president Marbud Dkhar claimed one aspirant was asked to pay Rs 4 lakh and had paid Rs 1 lakh to persons claiming proximity to elected representatives.
Following the chaos, West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak has ordered a probe by SP Herbert Kharkongor and Assistant Commissioner E Lyngdoh and withheld results till the inquiry is complete.
“Integrity, transparency and meritocracy are of paramount importance,” Nayak said.
