Shillong, Oct 1: Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari today said Booth Level Officers (BLO) will now visit homes of voters flagged during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The “voter-friendly” move by the Election Commission of India means electors who got notices for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies need not visit ERO/AERO offices. BLOs will collect documents and upload them on the ECI portal for ERO consideration.
He said hearings will be held only in exceptional cases, preferably online. Voters can also authorise an adult family member to attend.
Help desks and special camps will be set up for vulnerable groups including night shelter inmates, labourers, poor and homeless persons, the CEO said.
As of today, 6,06,939 of 6,51,735 notices issued – 93.13% cases – have been completed.
So far, 1,194 electors have been found ineligible for final roll, while 19,71,723 have been kept for final publication.
