Shillong, Oct 23: ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Garo Hills organised a training programme on ‘Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Rabi Vegetables’ coupled with an input distribution event under the NICRA project today at Marapara village, Dalu Block.
The programme was led by Dr. Joyshree Mahanta, CTO (Plant Pathology) and assisted by Dr. Sanjay Chetry, (YP-II), drawing active participation from 45 active farmers.
The initiative aimed to enhance farmers’ understanding of sustainable and climate-resilient crop protection measures for improving productivity and profitability in Rabi vegetables.
During the training, farmers were sensitised to eco-friendly pest management techniques, including the application of beneficial microorganisms like Trichoderma for biological control and improved plant vigor. The use of neem oil, a natural biopesticide, and insect traps for pest management was also demonstrated.
To encourage practical adoption, participants were provided with essential inputs such as Trichoderma, neem oil and insect traps.
The event reinforced ICAR-KVK’s commitment to empowering farming communities through the dissemination of scientifically proven, low-cost, and environmentally sustainable technologies tailored to the needs of climate-vulnerable regions.
