Shillong, May 5: Two people reportedly died inside an illegal coal mine in Mukhain in Saipung under East Jaintia Hills district, sources said today.
The source said one of the persons identified as Emi Dkhar, an orphan who leaves behind two children, and a brother and a sister.
Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said an inquiry has been conducted; however, no evidence has been found to substantiate claims surrounding the incident.
The police team visited the Dkhar family, where they received information that Emi had succumbed to injuries inflicted by a falling tree, he said.
Rasgania said the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the death to verify the legitimacy of the claim and ascertain the actual cause of Dkhar’s death.
