It has taken nearly 20 years but justice was finally served in the murder of Rishanki Biam, with his murderer convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
The case goes back to 2005 when Linus Sumer, father of the deceased, alleged that one Aloi Suiam had murdered his son on September 29 that year in Saphai village.
The West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police informed today that justice was served last week on March 28 when the Court of the Sessions Judge found Suiam guilty of culpable homicide amounting to murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court also ordered compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family of the victim.
